IHF M19 World Championship in Croatia is getting closer and closer. From 2nd until 13th of August, four Croatian cities will host 32 teams from all around the world. These cities are Varaždin, Koprivnica, Opatija and Rijeka. We will present each city and today it’s time to present Varaždin.
In the preliminary round, Varaždin will host Groups A and B and in the main round group I and also group I in President Cup. This means young handball players from Portugal, Croatia, Rwanda, Algeria, Hungary, Slovenia, Morocco and New Zealand will be in this beautiful city from 2nd until 8th of August, or more, depending on their result. Also, Varaždin, or more exactly, Arena Varaždin will be the host of the final round and placement matches 5-8 place.
Varaždin is beautiful historical city in the northwest of Croatia situated on the river Drava. It’s the center of Varaždin county and is most famous for it’s beautiful baroque city center and wonderful nature around it. From 1767 to 1776 it was the capital of Croatia. All teams and countries coming to Varaždin will have a chance to enjoy lovely walks, admire the architecture and also beautiful nature in, and around the city.
Sports hall that will host all these handball matches in less then a month is Arena Varaždin. It was built in 2008 for Men’s World Championship that Croatia hosted in 2009. At it’s full capacity it can welcome 5 033 people.
