The draw for the M19 IHF World Championship was held in Zagreb on March 3rd. IHF’s competitions director, Patric Strub ran the draw with the help of Croatian handball legend, Igor Vori.
Thirty-two countries were sorted out in four pots. And here are the pots:
POT 1: Mexico, Burundi, Algeria, Czech Republic, Bahrain, USA-a, New Zealand, Georgia
POT 2: Rwanda, Iran, Saudi Arabia, North Macedonia, Japan, Brasil, Chile, Morocco
POT 3: Croatia, South Korea, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Slovenia, Montenegro, Argentina, Austria
POT 4: Hungary, Egypt, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Portugal
One country from each pot was situated in one of the eight groups and after the draw was over, groups A-H looked like this:
Group A: Portugal, Croatia, Rwanda, Algeria
Group B: Hungary, Slovenia, Morocco, New Zealand
Group C: Egypt, Iceland, Japan, Czech Republic
Group D: Spain, South Korea, Brasil, Bahrain
Group E: Denmark, Austria, Chile, Mexico
Group F: Norway, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Georgia
Group G: Germany, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, USA
Group H: Sweden, Faroe Islands, Iran, Burundi
Groups A and B will play in Varaždin, groups C and D in Koprivnica. Group E and F will be in Rijeka and groups G and H in Opatija. Each group will play in their city in the preliminary round, as well as in the main round. After the main round, best eight teams will go to, or stay in, Varaždin where final round will be played. Placement matches from 9th to 16th place will be played in Koprivnica. Rijeka and Opatija will host President Cup placement matches (from 17th to 32nd place).
M19 IHF World Championship starts on Wednesday, 2nd of August, and will finish on Sunday, 13th of August. You can find tickets for each day on this link.
